While Los Angeles has been known to be the hub of entertainment and celebrity, another creative business is beginning to get more well-deserved attention in the City of Angels. The fashion industry, with the help of several event local organizers, has begun receiving more attention with Los Angeles Fashion Week, occurring twice a year in several locations all over the city.

EDK was there for the Fall 2016 show of William Bradley, an emerging fashion designer originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama who moved to Los Angeles several years ago. The March 17th runway event took place at the Skybar at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood. William Bradley is the collaborative effort of design team Brad Parnell and Rodney Jones, whose goal is to design cool, comfortable clothes for women. From long wool coats to a silky white skirt with suspender straps, the Fall 2016 collection evoked casual comfort.

Several event platforms host Los Angeles Fashion Week events, including Art Hearts Fashion, Style Fashion Week, LA Fashion Week, and the newest one, Fashion Week Los Angeles. All the shows feature the newest creations across markets, from children’s apparel to couture designs. While this fashion week doesn’t receive the kind of attention that fashion shows in fashion capitals like New York and Paris do, the event has been growing steadily since its inception, and major designers such as Tom Ford and Betsey Johnson have shown in Los Angeles in recent years.

Many are hopeful that the diversity of Los Angeles can be reflected in the types of designs shown in the fashion collections, especially with the various event platforms showcasing different design tastes. Fashion shows typically provide the opportunity for traditional media exposure, social media promotion, as well garners the attention of buyers and stylists looking for great product. With Los Angeles being a trend-setting city, we know the growth of Los Angeles Fashion Week will continue its fast pace and establish the City of Angels as a fashion force to be reckoned with.
