Itching for sweet potato pie this Thanksgiving holiday? Well, you might have to wait a little while — well, at least for one particular brand of the potato pie. R&B singer Patti LaBelle recently began distributing her Sweet Potato Pie at Walmart stores nationwide, but now demand has surged dramatically due to a video that went viral on Facebook this week.

According to Walmart, sales had been mediocre when it was first released in September. However, due to one fan’s amusing video, the pie is now selling out everywhere — in fact, sources from Walmart say they’re selling a pie per second!! James Wright Chanel sang his praises for the pie, breaking out into Patti LaBelle songs and posted the video on Facebook, where it went viral and caused massive demand for the holiday dessert.

With a little bit of humor and musicality, the video has racked up over 2 million views, and is giving Walmart a run for their money. It is the most searched food item on the company’s website. The pie has also found a black market on eBay, selling for $50 a pop. It’s certainly a testament to the value of video marketing in selling product. While this video wasn’t strategically crafted and written by the marketing team behind Patti LaBelle’s sweet potato pie, needless to say it was its authenticity that made this video a winner.

What do you think of the video? With Walmart in process of securing 2 million pounds of sweet potato for its next run, maybe LaBelle and her team should enlist Chanel as a marketing rep for the company!
